The Surreal Sound
Vocal Sounds
A studio is set apart by
the vocal sound. One of our favorite setups is a Neumann 149 tube
microphone through a class A Summit tube preamp into a Manley
limiter directly converted to 48k digital on a DA88. A perfect
combination for a warm, natural, clean and uncolored sound.
Our Drum Sounds
The space in which your drums are recorded make a significant contribution to your sound. Our large recording room is ideal for this. While your kit will probably require other selections, for our studio Gretsch kit Kurt prefers Sennheiser 421s on toms, an AKG C452 condenser on snare, Neumann KM84 for hi-hat, AKG D12 or EV RE20 on kick. Cymbals and stereo room tone are captured on 2 Nuemann U87 condensers. Whenever possible, all mikes go through tube preamps.
