Filming the video
X-NILO
"Mission"
Produced by Kurt Riemann
Summer 2002
X-Nilo was recording their album at Surreal when Kurt came up with this
stylish and enigmatic concept for their song, "Mission." The
video was shot in the field adjacent the studio on an suitably overcast
day. The band monitored the song and the video was shot from twenty
different points of view with one camera. The idea was to shoot it
guerrilla style with available technology - ladders, cameras strapped to
ten-foot poles, out of car windows, you name it. The only thing Kurt
didn't get to try was hanging the camera from a kite because it just
wasn't windy enough. Sam Gray assisted on the shoot and Justin Freeman
from Channel 2 news was on hand filming for an upcoming documentary on the
Alaskan music scene.

"O Come, All Ye Faithful"
Produced by Kurt Riemann
December 2002
This is the first of several videos produced for the "Merry Christmas
From Alaska" special on KTUU. The concept was to show how the song's
message was still pertinent today despite the speed and interpersonal
distance of the modern world. Using special effects software and a lot of ingenuity Kurt created this computer enhanced masterpiece that reveals
more of the technological underpinnings of the song. This video is a good
example of using a particular kind of on-screen subtext to bring out a
message. The final video is very dense and colorful, and Kurt's favorite
part is what happens when she sings "Glory to God. . ." in the
second verse.
